A few days on from producing our first 3D-printed foam roller, we’re still experimenting, testing and asking lots of questions.
One of the things becoming clear is just how much flexibility 3D printing gives us.
Unlike traditional manufacturing, changing a design doesn’t mean starting all over again. It means we can make small adjustments, print a new version and see how it feels.
Exploring the feel
One area we’re exploring is density. By changing the internal structure of the roller, we’re able to create different levels of firmness.

Some athletes prefer a gentler massage, while others like something much firmer to really work into tight muscles.
It’s still early days, but being able to tailor the feel of a roller is proving to be one of the most exciting parts of the process.
We’re also discovering that a foam roller doesn’t have to look the same as everyone else’s.
Because every roller is printed individually, we can personalise them with names, club logos, sports, team names or other details that make each one unique.

Whether it’s for an individual athlete, a sports club, a university team or a special event, it’s rewarding to see how a practical piece of recovery equipment can also become something personal.
As we continue to experiment, we’re also trying different surface patterns, sizes and finishes to better suit the needs of different sports and athletes.
Every new print gives us another opportunity to learn and improve.
It’s an exciting stage of the journey. There are still plenty of ideas to explore and no doubt a few challenges along the way, but that’s all part of creating something new.
We’ll continue to share what we discover as we go. Thanks for following our journey.
